Fiftyshadesofgold is owned by the Estate of Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. and was also bred by Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. who is a member of the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. won the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Texas Thoroughbred Association.
