Kentucky Oaks 2014; Can Got Lucky break the 2nd place curse?

Kentucky Oaks 2014; Can Got Lucky break the 2nd place curse: Got Lucky is a set to compete in the Longines Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on Friday, May 2, 2014. Got Lucky currently sits in the 8th place position on the Kentucky Derby leader board with 64 points. The fan-favorite filly has finished in 2nd place four times out of five lifetime starts. Got Lucky’s connections hope the talented Kentucky Oaks contender can break the “second place curse.”

Got Lucky Horse John Velazquez

Three-year-old filly Got Lucky brought jockey John Velazquez across the finish line first at Gulfstream Park on January 29, 2014. The win was John Velazquez’s first since recovering from a very serious spill that required surgery to remove his spleen. Got Lucky is a srong contender in the 2014 Kentucky Oaks for trainer Todd Pletcher but it hasn’t been announced yet if John Velazquez will get the mount.

Kentucky Oaks contender Got Lucky was foaled on April 3rd, 2011. Got Lucky’s sire is A.P. Indy and Got Lucky’s Dam is Malka. Got Lucky is owned and was bred by Hill ‘N’ Dale Equine Holdings, Inc. & Philip J. Steinberg. Got Lucky is a Todd Pletcher trained three-year-old filly.

Got Lucky has achieved the racing class of a placed multiple graded stakes competitor. Got Lucky’s statistics for this year include 3 starts, with 1 first and 2 seconds and 0 thirds. So far this year, Got Lucky has earned $124,000 with $41,333 earnings per start. Got Lucky’s overall career stats include 5 starts with 1 firsts and 4 seconds and 0 thirds. Got Lucky’s total career earnings are $223, 000 with $4,600 per start. Got Lucky is ranked #110 out of 28,376 horses.

Got Lucky has had a decent race season, but just could not seem to break the second place curse. In 2013 on November 30th, Got Lucky competed in the Demoiselle grade 2 stakes at Aqueduct race track for a distance of 1 1/8 miles and came in second place behind Stopchargingmaria. On February 22nd of this year Got Lucky competed in the grade 3 Rachel Alexandra Stakes (see recap) at Fair Grounds for 1 1/6 miles and Got Lucky came in second again behind fellow Oaks contender Untapable. More recently on April 5th of this year, Got Lucky competed at the grade 2 Gazelle Stakes (watch replay) at Aqueduct race track for 1 1/8 miles and again came in second place behind My Miss Sophia, who is also a strong 2014 Kentucky Oaks contender. Hopefully, esteemed trainer Todd Pletcher can help Got Lucky get past the second place rut.

Got Lucky galloped around the Churchill Downs track to prepare for the Kentucky Oaks with exercise rider Amy Mulen on Wednesday, April 24, 2014. No official announcement has been made for which jockey Got Lucky will team up with for the 2014 Kentucky Oaks.
