My Miss Sophia wins the 2014 Gazelle Stakes

My Miss Sophia wins the 2014 Gazelle Stakes: The 2014 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct is another race on the track to the upcoming Kentucky Derby Oaks. The race is a Grade 2 race for 3 year old fillies and it is 1 1/8 miles. My Miss Sophia took home the win for this year’s Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

My Miss Sophia was awarded 100 points on the Kentucky Oaks leader board and also took home the $300,000 purse. My Miss Sophia is trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden by jockey Javier Castellano and was the 4-5 favorite going into the 2014 Gazelle Stakes.

Pletcher said of My Miss Sophia and the race, “It went how we thought it might on paper…It looked like My Miss Sophia was the only speed, but you never know how a race is going to unfold. It certainly played out the way we thought it would.”

Castellano said of My Miss Sophia, “She broke well out of the gate…I was the only speed and I took advantage of it. She was able to relax. I was really impressed because she had only been shorter distances and today we stretched her out to a mile-and-an-eighth. I think she improved and I liked the way she did it and she was much the best in the race.”

Got Lucky came in second place and is also trained by Pletcher and Sweet Reason came in third place in the 2014 Gazelle Stakes. The plans for My Miss Sophia are to head to Churchill Downs for the 2014 Kentucky Oaks. So far, My Miss Sophia has had two wins out of three starts.
