Sugar Shock Gains Redemption with a Win at the 2014 Fantasy Stakes: After a disappointing disqualification in the 2014 Honeybee Stakes, Sugar Shocks finds redemption with a win in the Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Sugar Shock won the 2014 Fantasy Stakes by a half-length on the 1 1/16 mile race track. Sugar Shock went to the front of the pack from the rail and battled it out with Kiss Moon, but Sugar Shock was able to get ahead in the homestretch on the fast track. Sugar Shock posted a time of 1:43.87. Sugar Shock is trained by Doug Anderson and is ridden by jockey Channing Hill.

Trainer Anderson said of Sugar Shock’s big win, “We’re just ecstatic…She’s such a joy to be around. It sure is a possibility that she’ll go to the Kentucky Oaks. We’ll see how she comes out of this.”

Jockey Hill said of Sugar Shock’s race performance “he broke so sharp, but I was hoping she would turn it off a little down the backside…But, she was always comfortable. Once she turned into stretch I felt her take a few deep breaths and I knew she’d be tough from there. I was glad Terry’s horse (Kiss Moon) was there to keep us honest and that we made the decision at the finish and not the stewards.”

Hill has ridden Sugar Shock in every race that Sugar Shock has been in so far, and so this win is especially exciting. Sugar Shock takes 100 points towards the Kentucky Oaks and after a major high from this win, hopefully the momentum will keep going and Sugar Shock will perform well at Churchill Downs. Kiss the Moon came in second place and Euphrosyne came in third rounding out the top three.
