Kentucky Oaks 2014; Get to know gray beauty In Tune: In Tune is set to race in this year’s Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on Friday, May 2, 2014. The gray filly is in the fifth place position on the Kentucky Oaks leader board with a total of 100 points. The undefeated In Tune is undefeated in all three of her career starts at Gulfstream Park and is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in preparation for the Kentucky Oaks. UPDATE: In Tune Withdrawn from Oaks
In Tune has most recently won the grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks (watch replay) at Gulfstream Park on March 29th of this year. The Gulfstream Park Oaks stands at 1 1/8 miles. Before that the filly finished first in two races both at Gulfstream Park.
In Tune’s team includes trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Wertheimer and Frere. Todd Pletcher actually won the 2010 Kentucky Derby with race horse Super Saver and he also trained race horse Rags to Riches who won the Kentucky Oaks in 2007 and then last year, 2013, Pletcher trained Princess of Sylmar for a win at the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. Pletcher also won the Elcipse Award for top trainer for four years, three years in a row from 2004-2007 and then again in 2010. Pletcher has also trained a variety of Eclipse Champions.
In Tune’s owners Wertheimer and Frere are actually brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer. They hail from France and they come from a family that owns fashion house business Chanel. They come from a long line of men who were involved in horse racing including their grandfather and father. In fact, their father Jacques Wertheimer was named the leading owner in France in 1975.
In Tune’s pedigree includes Wichitoz and Unbridled’s Song, who was in the top 10 of the leading sire list. In Tune was foaled March 21, 2011.
Javier Castellano is In Tune’s regular rider and he’s sure to team up with the filly for the 2014 Kentucky Oaks. The highest class that In Tune has received is as a graded stakes winner. Certainly, In Tune’s team hopes to add Kentucky Oaks winner to In Tune’s profile this year at Churchill Downs.
