In recent years, a novel and well-thought-out service has been making waves in the ready-to-wear fashion industry. Zara, the renowned fashion brand, has also ventured into this market, albeit with relatively little fanfare. This move proves beneficial for our wallets, helping us save a few bucks during these challenging times.
A Revolutionary Service from Zara
Though Zara’s new service is groundbreaking in the fashion world and could potentially change the lives of bargain-hunting fashionistas, the concept is not entirely new. During World War II, due to a shortage of materials, the British government urged its citizens to “Make do and mend” their clothing. Through various advertising campaigns, the British were encouraged to repair and reuse their garments instead of buying new ones.
Following in these historical footsteps, a year ago, Zara launched its “Zara Pre-owned” service in France, focusing on circular fashion, which includes a repair feature that might be particularly appealing. The goal? To offer consumers the opportunity to mend and/or repair their favorite pieces that have suffered wear and tear over time. While Zara’s primary aim with this initiative is to promote eco-responsibility, people are also drawn to it for economic reasons, as it can save them hundreds of euros annually.
Repair Instead of Discard
Rather than throwing away a damaged garment, it can now simply be repaired. Consider the case of a lost button. Suppose the item in question is a Zara creation featuring a unique button that’s hard to find in stores. Before this repair feature was available, our options were limited: either replace all the buttons, leave the missing button as it is, or doom the garment to oblivion.
These inconvenient alternatives made life difficult, encouraged waste, and resulted in lost money. For a low-cost coat, this could mean throwing away nearly a hundred euros! With Zara Pre-Owned, it is now possible to have it mended for 3 euros per item: the specific button will likely be available in Zara’s repair workshops. This amounts to a savings of 36.95 euros on the least expensive coat from the Spanish label (priced at 39.95 euros). Just imagine the savings for the brand’s most expensive coat…
Simple Repair Process
For those who might think this process sounds complicated, it really isn’t. All you need to do is visit your nearest Zara store, explain what you need, and drop off the garment you want repaired. Once the alteration is complete, the team will contact you to pick it up. The service is also available online.
Besides button repairs, the brand offers zipper replacements, seam repairs with or without lining, and patching of holes and tears. Those who love discounts will be pleased to know that they can also take advantage of the “repair bonus,” which can save them up to 15 euros on the original price of the procedure, further reducing their bill.
