Popular Fashion Brands in France Take a Hit
In the ever-evolving fashion industry, several once-popular French retail brands have faced significant setbacks. Recently, a legendary footwear brand, cherished for over a century, is now facing potential collapse.
The fashion world has seen a rapid succession of bankruptcy filings. Following the fashion retailer Jennyfer, which was declared bankrupt last week, a renowned century-old French shoe brand is now grappling with severe financial troubles. This brand, a favorite among older generations and renowned for its craftsmanship in footwear, is no stranger to financial distress. It has already undergone bankruptcy proceedings in the past, not once but twice, as reported by LSA Conso. This beloved shoe brand is none other than André.
André first entered bankruptcy in 2020 and again in February 2023. It has changed owners multiple times, having been managed by companies such as Vivarte, Spartoo, 1Monde9, and Optakare, in hopes of reversing its dire fortunes. However, this third bankruptcy filing suggests a highly uncertain future. Despite the ongoing turmoil and general skepticism, the brand’s management expressed confidence: “Our stores, our corner at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris, and our website remain open and are fully committed to serving our loyal customers with the same standard of service and style. Together, we are building the future of New André, with determination and optimism.”
Potential Store Closures Despite Management Optimism
Although the current leadership remains hopeful about the future of the remaining stores, history has shown that closures can occur abruptly and without warning. It’s worth noting that the number of André stores was already slashed by half two years ago following a takeover by the Belgian company Optakare, reducing from about fifty stores to just 21. This raises concerns about whether the remaining stores might soon shut down as well. Here are the 16 André stores still operational in France:
– Les Ulis (91)
– Carré Sénart Shopping Center, Lieusaint (77)
– Vélizy 2 Shopping Center, Vélizy-Villacoublay (78)
– Parly 2 Shopping Center, Le Chesnay (78)
– Paris 6 (75006)
– Westfield Forum des Halles Shopping Center (75001)
– Les 4 Temps Shopping Center, Courbevoie (92)
– Bay 2 Shopping Center, Collégien (77)
– Tours (37)
– Rennes Alma Shopping Center, Rennes (35)
– La Rochelle (17)
– La Part Dieu Shopping Center, Lyon (69)
– Aushopping Bordeaux Lac (33)
– Bordeaux Remparts, Bordeaux (33)
– Toulouse (31) (opening soon)
– Nice Lingostière Shopping Center, Nice (06)
The future of these stores hangs in the balance as the company navigates through these challenging times.
