Lady Di’s Beloved Daily Trend Makes a Spring Comeback!

Denim Dominates Spring Fashion: How to Wear It Like Lady Di

Every spring, it becomes a staple on everything: pants, shoes, bags, tops, and even hats! Here’s how to rock it as elegantly as Lady Di.

Spring marks the start of a new fashion season. It’s time to pack away the ski gear and boots and bring out the light, colorful outfits. More importantly, it’s the perfect moment to highlight a fabric that, although present throughout the year, truly comes into its own in spring and summer.

Originally, this fabric wasn’t highly valued. It was created for miners and cowboys due to its durability. Then, much like the leather jacket, Hollywood romanticized it by dressing actors like John Wayne and Gary Cooper in it. Gradually, it gained popularity and is now a daily wardrobe staple!

Of course, we’re talking about denim! This fabric, centuries old, is still at the center of fashion discussions: its exact origins remain a mystery. Some believe it was invented in France in the 16th century by someone named Sergé de Nîmes, which supposedly gave denim its name. However, it was also found in England years later. Whether it was the French fabric that crossed the Channel or an English fabric by the same name, we may never know. What is certain is that denim became fashionable thanks to Levi Strauss, who created the first denim jeans in 1873 and the iconic blue jeans in 1890, which Yves Saint Laurent was a fan of. He even said, “I wish I had invented blue jeans.”

Denim has become timeless. Whether it’s jeans, jackets, pumps, bucket hats, or even bags, this material never goes out of style. Everyone has worn it: Audrey Hepburn, Brooke Shields, Cindy Crawford, Jane Birkin, Marilyn Monroe… as well as more recent stars like Britney Spears and again, Cindy Crawford. Royalty has embraced it too! Lady Di was a huge fan: she wore denim every day.

This cotton textile has always been fashionable and held a prominent place in the Y2K trend of the 2000s. But who would have thought that denim would make its way onto the high-fashion runways? Yet, iconic pieces like the “L’Ecume des Jours” dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier were made from denim! “Denim is one of the oldest fabrics in the world, yet it remains eternally youthful,” stated an author in American Fabrics magazine in 1969.

So, bring out your denim jacket and don’t hesitate to create total denim looks from head to toe: it’s the trend every spring!
