I’m 32, and my mother recently turned 60. Aware that life’s moments with her are precious, especially since I’ve already lost one parent, I frequently show my love through acts of service and uplifting words. However, sometimes grand gestures are necessary to express the depth of my feelings. For me, the best gifts for her are experiences—precious memories to cherish together forever. Last Mother’s Day, I took it upon myself to orchestrate a luxurious mother-daughter weekend. I told her to keep her weekend free, specifically canceling her usual Sunday swim.
The Ultimate Gift: A Getaway to Normandy
My surprise was a trip to Normandy, with a stop at Giverny. A beach, poetry, and a shopping spree just an hour and a half from Paris made it an idyllic and convenient destination. On the evening before our departure, I placed a My Jewellery bracelet engraved with my siblings’ initials and mine on her bed. I also got matching bracelets for the whole family!

I packed her travel bag in advance, slipping in a T-shirt with a custom message. Although I can’t recall the exact one, there’s a similar one at Brownie with “I Love You” around the collar. We drove to the Airbnb I had booked, complete with a jacuzzi. The next day, we visited Claude Monet’s house, where her love for flowers met its match. We enjoyed a lunch filled with moules-frites at a local restaurant. As avid bargain hunters, we spent our afternoon at the McArthurGlen Giverny outlet village.

The deals were even better than at La Vallée Village, where we usually shop. We splurged at Le Tanneur, The Kooples, and Vivienne Westwood—stores not found in central Serris. To keep the weekend’s slumber party vibe, I bought us Crocs as slippers, customized with plenty of charms.

Not being a loyalty program member, I was unaware of the benefits and separately purchased a personal shopping session for later—a final gift to make her feel like royalty. However, members can enjoy Member Days, receiving advice from personal shoppers and color specialists to enhance their VIP experience.
Cherished Moments and Peaceful Reflections
Back at our stay, we enjoyed the jacuzzi, watched a movie, and chatted about life until we lost track of time. The following day was more relaxed with a trip to Deauville—barefoot on the sand, basking in the zenith sun, and breathing in the sea air. Before we knew it, we were already heading back to Paris.
