Delicious Turkish Cheese Borek Recipe You Must Try!

Here’s a delicious and simple recipe for Turkish cheese borek that’s also budget-friendly. These boreks are the perfect accompaniment to your soups, especially during Ramadan meals with chorba or harira.

Ingredients

  • For 6 People
  • Turkish Cheese (Süt Diyar): 1 can
  • Phyllo Dough (or börek sheets): 1 package
  • Flat-leaf Parsley: 1 bunch
  • Mint (optional): 3 leaves
  • Olive Oil
  • Pan (or a deep fryer with boiling oil, depending on your preference)

    Preparation

  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 3 minutes

    1. Cut the Sheets

Begin by slicing the phyllo dough into pieces (divide the circle into 6 roughly triangular sections).

    2. Add the Cheese

Place a slice of cheese on each dough piece, sized so it fits the length of the sheet.

    3. Arrange the Parsley

Lay 2 or 3 sprigs of flat-leaf parsley lengthwise on top of the cheese.

    4. Add a Hint of Mint

If desired, sprinkle finely chopped mint leaves evenly over the cheese and parsley for added flavor.

    5. Roll Them Up

Next, roll the dough around the cheese to form a wrap (if using special börek sheets, you might need to dab a couple of drops of water to seal it).

    Serving

You can either pan-fry or deep-fry the borek, according to your taste. For pan-frying, use some olive oil to prevent sticking and cook until the dough is golden and crispy. For deep-frying, submerge the borek in hot oil (the dough may puff up if it’s a special börek sheet, which is normal), and fry for about 30 to 45 seconds, turning them since they float.
