Delicious Zucchini Tian with Smoked Bacon, Onions, Rice, and Grated Gruyère

Allow me to share with you a fabulous recipe for zucchini tian with smoked bacon, onions, rice, and, of course, grated Gruyère cheese. This dish offers a mouthwatering way to enjoy zucchini and is genuinely delightful—I highly recommend giving it a try!

Ingredients

For 6 servings:

– Zucchini: 900 g
– Smoked bacon: 100 g
– Rice: 70 g
– Grated Gruyère cheese: 50 g
– Large onion: 1
– Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
– Eggs: 2
– Garlic cloves: 4
– Parsley: to taste
– Salt: to taste
– Pepper: to taste

Instructions

**Total Time**: 55 minutes

**Preparation**: 15 minutes

**Cooking**: 40 minutes

1. Start by peeling the zucchini. Cut it in half lengthwise and scoop out the center. Chop the zucchini into small pieces and steam until tender—you should be able to pierce it easily with a knife. Once cooked, mash the zucchini.

2. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and gently sauté the onion until it’s translucent but not browned.

3. Partially cook the rice. In a separate pan, sauté the bacon until it’s nicely browned. Chop the garlic and parsley finely.

4. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed zucchini, semi-cooked rice, sautéed onion, beaten eggs, cooked bacon, grated Gruyère cheese, chopped garlic, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

To Finish

Pour the mixture into a buttered gratin dish and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (approximately 400°F) for 40 minutes. The top should be golden and bubbly, indicating it’s ready to be served. Enjoy this savory, cheese-laden delight with a side salad or as a main course!
