Esquire Horseplayers Episode 8 Recap; Santa Anita Streak

Esquire Horseplayers Episode 8 Recap; Santa Anita Streak: In the 8th episode of Horseplayers we are still at Santa Anita at the Breeders Cup. Christian Hellmers decided to pull “out all the stops.”  After all as he said “Its real money with significant chances,” so he brought a good luck pyramid for good energy and he finally was able to get someone to go in on a deal with him. Christian brought along his mother to bet alongside him with his picks. He has come in second twice before, so he was gunning for first place. Every player is only allowed one betting slot so having mom along to bet another spot helps Hellmers chances. Hellmers fellow handicappers also make it clear that Hellmers is backed and bets for a team; while none of what Hellmers does is technically illegal, it certainly seems to be a continued irritation for his fellow handicappers.

Beychok is still trying to find a big win in order to get his place at the Vegas handicapping championship. For all the players everything builds up to the last race of the day. None of them fair that well throughout the day and they all needed wins by the end of the day, but unfortunately all of the players find themselves out of luck when Mucho Macho Man takes home a big win (watch replay of Mucho Macho Man winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic). This leaves Cox in 40th place having at least broken even and Conte behind 100th place and turning up empty even though he picked winners; he couldn’t get exotics and triples.  Beychok doesn’t have a big win either and even with the help of good ole’ mom, Hellmers bet big and still lost out.

We will have to see what is in store for the handicappers next week.
