Ihtimal took the win at the 2014 UAE Oaks Stakes
Ihtimal took the win at the 2014 UAE Oaks Stakes: Well, the United States isn’t the only place that boasts some major horse racing. The 2014 UAE Oaks Stakes took place at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai as a part of the Dubai Racing Club on Thursday, February 27, 2014. The $250,000 2014 UAE Oaks Stakes for 3 year-olds is part of the road to the Kentucky Oaks and awarded Godolphin’s Ihtimal 50 points on the Kentucky Oaks Trail.
The 2014 UAE Oaks Stakes contenders ran on a sand surface and Irish filly Ihtimal took home the win at Meydan Racecourse. Feedyah came in second and Mensoora came in third with Magrooma rounding out the top four. Ihtimal is trained by Saeed bin Suroor and was ridden by jockey S. De Sousa.
Ihtimal had a good race. Mensoora was the pace setter with a very fast pace, and Ihtimal was able to catch up to Mensoora and follow the pace and then eventually take the lead off of Mensoora. Mensoora ran out of steam and couldn’t hang on long enough to outrun Ihtimal. Feedyah, who ran her first start in five months, was the third place contender and gave a decent race as well with all of the horses not coming close to having a chance against the top three. Ihtimal really proved her worth as she won by a 10 length margin.
Trainer Bin Suroor said of Ihtimal’s race, “That was very impressive. The pace was not very fast early on and she was a little bit keen but soon settled into a lovely rhythm.”
Jockey Silvestre De Sousa said, “I did not want to get stuck in any traffic so was happy to be quite wide and she just took me to the front really traveling before quickening well…it was a big win.”
