Are We Making a Mistake with Our Choice of Footwear?

For the most devoted fashion enthusiasts, style often trumps health considerations. Céline Dion once remarked in an interview that when you fall in love with a pair of shoes, you don’t buy them in your size; you buy them and then figure out how to make them fit. While it’s commonly believed that stilettos and other high-heeled shoes are the primary culprits harming our bodies, there exists another type of footwear, famed for its comfort, that is equally detrimental. During a broadcast on RTL, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed shed light on this surprising fact.
Speaking with Amandine Begot and Thomas Sotto, Dr. Mohamed pointed out, “Podiatrists will tell you that sneakers are neither good for your feet nor your posture, affecting both children and adults alike.” He listed lower back pain and muscle overuse as some of the issues brought up by the renowned doctor with 1.9 million followers. Importantly, he noted that these negative effects are primarily due to wearing them every day.
Dr. Mohamed also highlighted another critical aspect that contributes to these adverse effects: the manner in which we put them on. Rushing and slipping into our sneakers as if they were slippers can lead to “completely splayed feet, which is how you can end up with back pain and muscle overuse (…) So, take an extra two minutes every day to properly lace up your shoes.”
Other trending topics:
– “This is the best warm dessert at night: it strengthens bones and boosts morale after 60 years”
– “When this name appears in a WhatsApp message, the hacking of your account has begun”
Fortunately for sneaker lovers, Dr. Mohamed does not advocate for a complete abandonment of these shoes. Instead, he recommends adopting best practices and choosing the right models. “The ideal choice would be leather sneakers that tie with laces.”
In conclusion, not all sneakers need to be discarded. Only certain styles are problematic. Ultimately, it’s how we use them that determines their potential harm.
