From Obscurity to International Fame: A French Leather Goods Brand’s Rise
Unknown to many just a short while ago, a leather goods company nestled in the French Alps has seen its popularity skyrocket, thanks to a 62-year-old actress. It’s a modern tale of success that resonates perfectly with today’s trends.
Local Talent Shines in Fashion
Across France, from quaint rural corners to bustling cities, small-scale brands and artisans are not just crafting high-quality items but also setting fashion trends. A recent standout is a brand from Isère that has been getting a lot of attention.
This leather goods label experienced an unprecedented surge in popularity following the latest season of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris.” One of its brightly colored bags was featured on Mindy, the protagonist’s best friend. That was all it took for the magic of fashion to ignite. Orders started pouring in at an astonishing rate, not just from France but globally, with fashion enthusiasts from Singapore, Thailand, and beyond eager to get their hands on the now-iconic “Bag B.” The brand, which has been around for 11 years, had never before seen such international acclaim.
The bag itself is quite striking: it features smooth, seamless curves and a compact, highly practical design. It’s made from high-quality leather sourced from leftovers of well-known houses and comes in a vibrant color that’s hard to miss.
The Craftsmanship of Bohemian Chic Interior
The bag is a creation of Bohemian Chic Interior, founded by Bérangère and Sandra, two friends based in the small village of Sassenage. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to make just one bag. “This is a bag made in our mountains, by our own hands… handmade, in France, in our village,” Bérangère proudly explained to the Dauphiné Libéré.
Bérangère, based in Trièves (Isère), along with Sandra from the same community, gained unexpected fame when one of their pink bags appeared on “Emily in Paris.” This feature in the Netflix series has significantly altered their crafting journey.
Affordable Luxury
The pricing is quite reasonable too. The Mindy bag is available for 260 euros. Like many modern love stories, it all started with a direct message. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Sylvie and is a longtime customer, was instrumental in getting the bags featured. When she was launching her bags with Sandra, Bérangère immediately sent a message to the actress to introduce their new creations.
While filming season 5, the L’Oréal ambassador mentioned the brand to Marylin Fitoussi, the costume designer for “Emily in Paris,” and just like that, it appeared in episode six.
This instance demonstrates not just the allure of finely crafted goods but also the power of media exposure in catapulting a local brand to international fame overnight.
