What to do at Churchill Downs…

Pocahontas & Iroquois Stakes 2014

The jumpsuit fashion trend will take you from day to night at the Pocahontas Stakes and the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Most people know the Churchill Downs for the annual Kentucky Derby but the track has plenty to offer on other race days as well. If you happen to be in town the night before the Pocahontas and Iroquois Stakes, Churchill Downs features Downs After Dark. On September 5th, Downs After Dark will be featuring College Rivalry Night. Wear your team colors and you might be selected to compete for prizes with games like Football Toss, and Tailgating Olympics. Also, for everyone who attends College Rivalry Night, Churchill Downs will donate $1 to The V Foundation benefiting cancer research. Beverages and food will also be available.

There are also plenty of things to enjoy on Saturday, September 6th on Pocahontas and Iroquois “Win and You’re In” day. For an elegant affair, try the Matt Winn Dining Room. Tickets start at $15 and include a dining room seat and an outdoor reserved box seat and racing program. You can also purchase a ticket for Millionaires Row and Skye Terrace, which includes mutuel tellers, self-serving wagering machines, multiple television monitors, cash bars, and a Chef’s Table buffet lunch. Tickets start at $34.50 per person for a panoramic view of the Downs on race day and a wet bar with wait staff reserve a Jockey Club Suit.

What to wear to Churchill Downs…

Whichever activity you choose for the Pocahontas and Iroquois Stakes day, be sure to look your best. One of the biggest trends for fall is the jumpsuit. This trend has been around for a little while and it is not losing any momentum. Just make sure to stay away from sleeveless rompers which are more for summer time. You can wear a romper that has a longer sleeve, which will still look refined. You should also avoid denim. A Churchill Downs “Win and You’re In” Challenge Race is not the time for bibs or overalls. You want to wear something fashion forward and elegant for race day. Try a black jumpsuit with unique mesh detailing at the top. For a sleeved romper version try a floral romper. If you want a jumpsuit that is a little bit loose then just make sure that it still cinches at the waist and has some definition so you are not swallowed up by the fabric. Try a royal blue jumpsuit with just the right amount of cinching in at the waist and the right draping along the leg.

Make sure you pair your jumpsuit with heels. This is no time for flats. Try a pointy toe heel or a strappy heel and make sure to avoid round toe heels or wedges in order to keep the look sleek. Also, stay away from wide brimmed hats, cloche hats, and fedoras, this look calls for a feminine and fun fascinator in order to look polished.

A jumpsuit will carry you from day to night so that you will look your best all day at the Downs.
