Jockey Martin Garcia said immediately after the 2014 Summertime Oaks, “She’s been running against good horses and she wants to run all day. I knew that I had the rail but she broke well and I put her on the lead and she was comfortable with that. I took advantage of it. She’s really sharp and when I asked her to go, she responded.”

Trainer Bob Baffert’s assistant Jim Barnes stated, “She had blinkers on and drew the rail. What’s your strategy going to be when you draw the inside? You don’t want her to get behind horses. She didn’t like that at Pimlico. She got away a little slow and got behind horses and really didn’t like it too much. Barnes added, “Last time with blinkers off we were just trying something a little different. I think going long was the key.”

The 2014 Summertime Oaks victory was JoJo Warrior’s first win since she broke her maiden at Del Mar last year as a two-year-old. Before the Summertime Oaks, the filly most recently finished 3rd in the Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 16th. After her performance in the Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita Park, JoJo Warrior will be star filly to watch as we approach the 2014 Breeders’ Cup World Championship.
