Silverbulletday Stakes 2014; Small Field of Six Looking For A Start In The Fairgrounds Oaks

The 2014 Silverbulletday Stakes takes place at Fairgrounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a 1 mile and 70 yard race on the sod for 3 year-old fillies with a purse of $125,000. This race is the first of Fair Grounds’ three-race sophomore filly series that concludes with the (GII) $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks on Louisiana Derby Day which is set for March 29, 2014. Five of the last nine Fair Grounds Oaks winners have gone on to win the Kentucky Oaks in May.
Previously known as the Tiffany Lass Stakes, it was renamed in 2012 to honor U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Silverbulletday who previously had a race at Fair Grounds named for her which was renamed the Rachel Alexandra Stakes.

The Silverbulletday Stakes is the 7th race of the day on a card of 11 along with the Lecomte Stakes and is set for a post-time of 3:25 pm CST.

I really like the filly Unbridled Forever, with 7-5 odds, in the 2014 Silverbulletday Stakes. The Dallas Stewart trained youngster is this trainers next hope to win the Kentucky Oaks in 2014 as he trained her mother, the mare Lemons Forever, who won it in 2006 with a massive payoff of $96.20.

Unbridled Forever broke her maiden on November 30th at Churchill Downs by 5 1/4 lengths in her most recent start on the dirt at 7 furlongs where she tracked four wide in the garden spot, took over the lead at the turn and took off with a final time of 1:21.91. The daughter of Unbridled’s Song/Lemons Forever/Lemon Drop Kid has a prior race at Churchill going a mile where she placed 5th in her first outing. She has been consistently working at Fairgrounds where she recently posted a 5F breeze in 1:00.60 on January 12th, 5/97 and on January 5th, 5F in 1:00.00 2/79. She looks ready to roll from gate #2 with R.Albarado in the irons.

I also like the Larry Jones filly Divine Beauty, with 8-5 odds, in the Silverbulletday Stakes. She is the daughter of Divine Park/Ghazo/Ghazi and has two races to her name, both in which she’s won. First out on September 7, 2013 she broke her maiden going 6F on the dirt at Churchill Downs where she set the pace along the inside, drew clear in the stretch with a good run out. On December 21st she won the Letellier Memorial Stakes here at Fairgrounds going 6F on the dirt where she broke last, settled back on the outside, ran 3-4 wide and took the lead at the quarter pole for the win. She recently worked 5F on January 13 at Fairgrounds in 1:00.60, 2/34 and on December 12th, 5F in 1:01.20, 6/42. Divine Beauty retains the services of Rosie Napravnik here and exits post #6.

As much as I like Unbridled Forever in here I’m going to have to side with Larry Jones and his filly Divine Beauty. I dig this guy as a trainer and loved his filly Eight Belles. I hope he can get a really big win with another gal soon and maybe it will be Divine Beauty. We’ll see if she and Unbridled Forever can both stretch out. I think Divine Beauty will have some speed and if she goes to the lead could set it up for Unbridled Forever if she can sits back and chills in the garden spot. On the other hand, maybe Divine Beauty will wire this field. It isn’t very big and I didn’t take very much time to look it over, so I could get smashed here with a long-shot. Some other fillies in this race have some great races and works lately. If I wager on this race I’ll use it in the first leg of a Pick 3 using the #2 and #6, ending with the last race, the Lecomte. Good luck to the gals and their connections.
