2014 Derby & Oaks Trail: Six Prep Races This Weekend

Three 2014 Kentucky Derby prep races and three 2014 Kentucky Oaks prep races take place this weekend at Keeneland, Belmont Park, and Woodbine. The winner of each race will be awarded ten points on the Kentucky Derby/Oaks leader board. Second place will take home four points, third place two points, and the forth place winner will be awarded one point.

2014 Kentucky Oaks

Three 2014 Kentucky Oaks prep races take place this weekend at Belmont Park, Keeneland, and Woodbine.

Watching and wagering on Derby prep races is a fun way to get to know the young colts and fillies on the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Trail and prepare you for the first leg of the Triple Crown! Below are the post positions, odds, post times, and information on the six prep races happening this weekend.

KEENELAND
Keeneland will host the GI Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity for two-year-old colts on the all-weather-track on Saturday, October 5th and currently holds a field of sixteen 2014 Derby hopefuls. The Breeders’ Futurity is also a “Win and You’re In” challenge race, which awards the winner with an automatic berth into the 2013 Breeders’ Cup. The $400,000 1 1/16 mile prep race is the 8th race of the day with a 4:49 PM EDT post time.

Keeneland will also feature a Kentucky Oaks prep race on Friday, October 4th at 5:21 PM EDT. The $400,000 1 1/16 mile Darley Alcibiades Stakes is the 9th race of the day and draws a field of thirteen two-year-old fillies. The Alcibiades Stakes is also a 2013 Breeders’ Cup prep race awarding the winner paid automatic entry into the championship races on November 1st and 2nd.

2014 Derby Trail

Two-year-old colts will take to the field this weekend to compete for ten points on the 2014 Kentucky Derby leader board in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, the Grey Stakes at Woodbine, and the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.

BELMONT PARK
Belmont Park will be popping with future 2014 Triple Crown stars with the GI Foxwoods Champagne Stakes at 5:46 PM EDT on Saturday, October 5th. The 10th race of the day draws a field of nine two-year-old colts that will run one-mile for $500,000 and ten points towards their 2014 Kentucky Derby chances. The two-year-old colt that crosses the Champagne Stakes finish line first will also win a paid entry into the 2013 Breeders’ Cup.

The $500,000 one-mile race awards the first place winner with ten points towards on the Kentucky Oaks leader board and also an all-expense paid entry into the 2013 Breeders’ Cup that takes place on November 1st and 2nd. The 2013 Frizette Stakes is the 9th race of the day on Saturday, October 5th with a 5:14 PM EDT post time.
