TVG Pacific Classic; Kettle Corn Sweet as Candy Ride?

Kettle Corn Horse

Kettle Korn will attempt to win the 2013 TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Sunday, August 25th. Kettle Corn is the son of Candy Ride, who won the Classic in 2003 with jockey Julie Krone on the mount.

TVG Pacific Classic; Kettle Corn Sweet as Candy Ride? The 23rd running of the $100,000 TVG Pacific Classic for three-year-olds and up takes place August 25, 2013 at the classic distance of 1 ¼ mile on the synthetic track at Del Mar in California. Kettle Corn brings the magic to Del Mar on Sunday as adoring fans cheer on a successful attempt to win the Classic exactly ten years after his father did.

Fans will flock to Del Mar in their Sunday’s finest to be part of the ten-year anniversary celebration of champion jockey Julie Krone, who won the Classic in record time on Candy Ride ten years ago in 2003. This year, the six-year-old son of Candy Ride, Kettle Corn, will compete in the Classic to attempt to keep the legacy alive!

Kettle Corn most recently won the San Diego Handicap at Del Mar on July 27th. Although Kettle Corn has never won a race at the classic distance of 1 ¼ miles, he finished second at that distance in the Hollywood Gold Cup on July 6th. Kettle Corn’s pedigree suggests that he should thrive on the longer distance on the polytrack. The John Sadler trained horse is said to love the beach and is comfortable in his Del Mar surroundings.

In addition to Kettle Corn, John Sadler will also enter You Know I Know in the 2013 TVG Pacific Classic. The four-year-old gelding by Simon Pure has worked great over the past couple of weeks in preparation for the Classic. John Sadler currently holds 18 wins at Del Mar, two over Bob Baffert and three wins over Doug O’Neill. John Sadler was awarded Del Mar’s top trainer in 2008 and 2009.

Kettle Corn and You Know I Know will surely have their work cut out for them in the 2013 TVG Pacific Classic. Entries also include Bob Baffert’s Game On Dude, Dullahan, Liaison, Jeranimo, and Richard’s Kid.

Trainer Doug O’Neill’s Richard’s Kid is looking for his 3rd Pacific Classic victory. The eight-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid won the 2009 and 2010 TVG Pacific Classics and is said to be training strong and steady.

Jockey Joe Talamo has been working with Richard’s Kid in preparation for the TVG Classic and after a recent morning workout said, “If he runs the race the way he just worked, ‘I got a range rover.’ Joe Talamo added, “He finished strong, didn’t get tired and wanted to keep going.”

The TVG Classic headlines a stakes triple-header at Del Mar, which also includes the 7-furlong Pat O’Brian, and the Del Mar Mile on turf. The first race begins at 1:00 PM PDT. Fans will receive a “cool as ever” long sleeve t-shirt with paid admission while supplies last.

Lady and The Track would like to wish John Sadler, C R K Stable, jockey Victor Espinoza, and the ever-improving Kettle Corn a sweet victory on Sunday in the 2013 TVG Classic! Good Luck! Safe Run!

The 2013 TVG Pacific Classic Stakes is the 9th race of the day with a 5:10 PM PDT post time.
