Take Charge Indy Retires After Successful Surgery

Take Charge Indy Retires

Take Charge Indy will recover at WinStar Farm and is set for stud duty in 2014.

Take Charge Indy Retires Today After Successful Surgery: Take Charge Indy will now reside at WinStar Farm. Announcement of Take Charge Indy’s retirement came shortly after a successful surgery was performed to repair his left foreleg. The A.P. Indy colt was injured on Sunday July 28, 2013 while racing at Monmouth Park in the Monmouth Cup Stakes.

Hall of fame jockey Gary Stevens pulled up Take Charge Indy half way through the Monmouth Cup Stakes after hearing a popping noise. Take Charge Indy was in the lead and most likely would of won the race by a large distance similar to his win in the 2013 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Dr. Patty Hogan performed Take Charge Indy’s thirty-minute surgery today and was pleased with the outcome.

“It’s unbelievable how classy this horse is,” said Dr. Hogan. She added, “The surgery went very well. He’s a super patient.”

Take Charge Indy is set for stud duty at WinStar Farm during the 2014 breeding season. WinStar Farm and Chuck & Maribeth Sandford co-owned Take Charge Indy until today’s retirement announcement. World famous trainer Patrick Byrne accomplished great wins with Take Charge Indy such as the 2012 Florida Derby and the 2013 Alysheba Stakes.
