Olympian Michael Phelps New Career Path: Horse Racing

The most decorated Olympic competitor Michael Phelps may become involved in Thoroughbred ownership in the future for the purpose of horse racing.

Michael Phelps may become involved in Thoroughbred ownership. The most decorated Olympic competitor of all time is interested in having a horse in training with Bob Baffert.

Olympian Michael Phelps, who is currently in London marking the end of his competitive swimming career, says he and his coach Bob Bowman are interested in buying a horse and placing it with Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Michael Phelps and Bob Baffert are long time friends.

“I think it would be cool,” Phelps told Yahoo! Sports. “Bob and I have talked about it multiple times.”

Phelps, a Baltimore native who grew up watching the Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course, says he plans to attend all three Triple Crown races in 2013. The swimmer posted on his Twitter account in May that he was “bummed” not to be attending this year’s Preakness. Michael Phelps is a big race fan. He constantly sends out tweets and posts wishing racehorse Bodemeister and Went The Day Well good luck before big races.

Michael Phelps won his 15th Olympic gold medal on Tuesday night at the 2012 Olympic games in London. He has won six more medals than anyone else on the planet, ever. He’s been rewarded 19 medals overall and still has three more chances to compete during the 2012 Olympic games.

The question is, what do you think Olympian Michael Phelps would name his champion racehorse?
