Point of Entry wins 2013 Kitten’s Joy at Gulfstream Park
The 30th running of The Kitten’s Joy Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap took place on Saturday, February 9. Point of Entry with, 9-5 odds, placed first while the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, who had 8-5 odds, finished second.
Point of Entry was my pick for the 2013 Kitten’s Joy. I had a good feeling about jockey John Velazquez bringing Point of Entry across the finish line. Point of Entry is owned by Phipps Stable and trained by Claude McGaughey.
It’s a shame that all of the 2013 Kitten’s Joy news and press focuses on how Animal Kingdom lost instead of celebrating Point of Entry’s victory. Animal Kingdom’s jockey is under extreme criticism for his early attempt at committing him too early. This was jockey Joel Rosario’s first ride on Animal Kingdom. Reports state that Team Valor International and trainer H. Graham Motion are not happy with Rosario’s performance and blame Animal Kingdom’s loss on him. I’m no expert, but I think I’d be thanking Joel Rosario for bringing my beloved Derby champion home safely!
