From Fashion to Music: A Seamless Transition
This iconic luxury brand has effortlessly stepped into the music scene, joining forces with Charlotte Gainsbourg as it ventures into the music industry.
The connections between fashion and the arts are extensive: designers, creative directors, and renowned stylists of fashion houses often have multiple talents. Beyond their undeniable skills in apparel, they also possess expertise in other fields that might seem unrelated: André Courrèges with his flair for architecture, Alexis Mabille and his passion for interior design, and Karl Lagerfeld with his fascination for photography, to name a few.
Charlotte Gainsbourg: A Visual Exploration of French Fashion Excellence
However, it’s a specific realm that has captured the attention of the fashion world: music. Recently, a prestigious French fashion house has made a significant foray into this industry by producing a music video and venturing into music production, specifically for the iconic Charlotte Gainsbourg.
The house in question is none other than Saint Laurent, led by artistic director Anthony Vaccarello. Vaccarello has facilitated his muse’s striking comeback. In the music video for “Blurry Moon,” the daughter of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg is, unsurprisingly, dressed entirely in Saint Laurent from head to toe.
The wardrobe features a Saharan jacket, straight-cut trousers, platform boots, and a pair of Saint Laurent-branded sunglasses—a style epitomizing the effortlessly chic Parisienne: the quintessential YSL woman. Although simple in elegance, the outfit comes with a hefty price tag: according to Marie Claire, it’s valued at at least 7,100 euros.
Behind the camera for this project is also Anthony Vaccarello. Making his directorial debut, the Belgian selected the scenic Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles as his backdrop.
In the video, Gainsbourg cruises in a convertible, her hair blowing in the wind under a sky painted with golden and orange hues. The camera angle shifts, the pace of the video slows to an almost seductive rhythm, and the scene unfolds in a single continuous shot. Eight years after her last album, did the singer make the right choice with this bold move? Only time will tell.
