Uruguayan Triple Crown contender Sir Fever; Paola Rosas Interview (English/Spanish): Uruguayan superstar Sir Fever is ready to achieve Triple Crown glory in his native Uruguay. The third leg of the Uruguayan Triple Crown takes place at Maronas, a racecourse that has some mysticism since Invasor won the Triple Crown there in 2005.

After Sir Fever’s achievements in the first two legs of the Uruguayan Triple Crown, including winning the Polla de Potrillos on September 7th and the Gran Premio Jockey Club on October 5th, Lady and The Track interviewed his owner Paola Rosas in Montevideo, Uruguay to learn more about this great horse. Paola Rosas was kind enough to answer questions about Sir Fever just so racing fans across the world would have the opportunity to get to know the colt a little better before the Gran Premio Nacional on Sunday, November 9, 2014.

How did you come to own a thoroughbred?
One day I went to the horse sales with my father-in-law and my husband, and when I saw “Sir Fever” I liked him so I ask my father in law to buy him, because I wanted to have a horse.

Do you have another horses besides Sir Fever?
Yes, I have a horse in taming, his name is “Fondo Musical” and is co-owned between my father and me.

How is the horse in the barn? Does he likes to eat carrots, apples, any other treats?
In the barn, he’s the horse that captures the attention, he’s very cuddly, he loves to look out the window in the racing days and he likes to eat fresh grass.

Knowing that Sir Fever is one of a kind, are there more nerves than normal in each race?
The nerves are always in each race. Since he is of the family, it’s more enjoyable, but the pre-race nerves always begin days before.

What got your attention when you choose Sir Fever? Are you aware that you choose the best horse of South America from 2011 crop?
What I liked when I choose him was his height and his face, it was like love at first sight, I’m aware of what is “Sir Fever”, but eventually I will realize of what he achieved, I’m a beginner at the track and everybody talks and everybody compares him with good horses and that fills me with pride.

Your husband is Sir Fever’s jockey and partner, your father in law is the trainer; How do u live the week of the race, when a horse with so family connections? It is the racing career planned altogether? Who has the last word?
In the week we have to be very quiet. We’re a team, so the unión is very important, that doesn’t mean there is not disagreement. The racing career goes well, that’s managed by my father-in-law and my husband. The last Word belongs to the trainer, but if there is one thing I don’t agree with, I’ll tell him.

How do you celebrate Sir Fever’s victories? Any special food? Barbecue at the barn?
We celebrate with a dinner with the family that day, later in the week we have a meal with some friends and relatives.

Do you choose clothes especially for each race? Do you watch international horse racing to be fashionable, or you like to impose your own style?
Yes, I like to buy clothes for the race day. Buying new clothes is a superstition also! I like the fashion but I impose my own style.

What do you think about music events at the racecourse in the racing days?
Yes, I think the shows are part of the party and the days of horse racing.

Besides horse racing, What other activity do you like to enjoy?
I like going out with family and traveling.

The horse has his facebook page and a twitter account. Did you create them? 
The social media accounts were created by a childhood friend, he knows nothing about horses but he always tell me he is amazed how people loves Sir Fever.

The recent participation in social media, added to his performances, have turned Sir Fever to an international sensation. Do you want to say something to the U.S horse racing fans, who follow Sir Fever on Lady and The Track?
I’m very happy I never thought to live to see something like that, the horse is an idol in our country and on November 9th, the racetrack will be full of collapsed people. To know they are talking about him internationally is something that fills me with pride.

On Derby Day (Gran Premio Nacional), the country surely is going to paralyze to watch him running and surely the racecourse will be filled with people because will be an historic day. Do you feel that pressure? Is it a very long month waiting until the day of the race? How many times you will visit the horse from now until the race day?
Yes, we feel the eyes of the people waiting for the race and the horse, it’s something unexplained, all the spectators clapping your horse, the wait is eternal, those 3 minutes when they call the horses by the speakers are pretty longs and nervous. I usually see the horse, I like to monitor everything he does.

Why the jacket of the stud is black and yellow plaid?
That jacket is from my father-in-law, I like that colors because also belongs to my favorite soccer team, so we decided to run with that colors.

What message would you give to women who enjoy the turf but do not dare to integrate fully into the activity?
Women give a special touch to horse racing, the look of us is from another point of view and that makes it more interesting, the horses are pretty smart and they are very well understood with us.

Sir Fever, la super estrella uruguaya, está listo para alcanzar la Gloria en su nativo Uruguay, en un hipódromo que tiene su mística, ya que vio correr en sus inicios al crack Invasor. Después de ver los logros alcanzados por el caballo hasta ahora, el equipo de Lady and the Track decidió realizarle una entrevista su dueña, Paola Rosas, para conocer un poco más de sobre este gran caballo. Se le realizaron algunas preguntas sencillas, para el público en general.

¿Cómo llegaste a ser propietaria de un caballo de carreras?
Un día en un remate estaban rematando varios haras, yo fui con mi suegro y mi marido, y cuando vi a “Sir Fever”, me gustó y le pedí a mi suegro que me lo comprara que yo quería tener un caballo.

¿Tienes otro caballos además de Sir Fever?
Sí, tengo un caballo que está en doma, se llama “Fondo Musical ” y es a medias con mi padre.

¿Cómo es el caballo en el stud? ¿Es de comer zanahorias, manzanas, alguna “golosina” en especial?
El caballo en el Stud es el que acapara toda la atención, es muy mimoso, le encanta mirar por la ventana los días de carrera y le gusta comer pasto fresco.

Sabiendo que el caballo es un fuera de serie ¿Hay mas nervios de lo normal en cada carrera?
Los nervios siempre están en cada carrera. Al ser de la familia se disfruta más pero los nervios previos a las carreras siempre empiezan días antes.

¿Qué fue lo que más te llamó la atención del caballo cuando lo elegiste? ¿Sos consciente de que elegiste el mejor generación 2011 de Sudamérica?
Lo que más me gustó cuando lo elegí fue su altura y su cara, fue como amor a primera vista , soy consciente de lo que es “Sir Fever”, pero con el tiempo me voy a dar cuenta de lo que logró, soy nueva en el turf y todos hablan y lo comparan con caballos buenos y eso me llena de orgullo.

Tu esposo es socio y jockey, tu suegro es el entrenador ¿Cómo se vive la semana de la carrera al ser un caballo con tantas conexiones familiares? ¿La campaña la planifican entre todos? ¿Quién tiene la última palabra?
La semana de la carrera se tiene que estar muy tranquilo. Es un grupo y como tanto la unión es muy importante, eso no quita que no haya ningún desacuerdo. La campaña va bien eso lo maneja mi suegro y mi marido. La última palabra la tiene el cuidador, aunque si hay algo en lo que no estoy de acuerdo se lo digo.

¿Cómo se festejan las victorias? ¿Alguna comida en especial? ¿Asado en el stud?
Se festeja en familia con alguna cena ese mismo día, después en la semana se hace una comida con amigos y familiares.

¿Elegís la ropa especialmente para cada carrera? ¿Mirás turf internacional para estar a la moda o te gusta imponer tu estilo?
Sí, me gusta comprar ropa para cuando corre, lo uso también de cábala, me gusta la moda pero impongo mi estilo.

¿Qué te parece que haya espectáculos artísticos en el hipódromo los días de carreras?
Sí, pienso que los espectáculos forman parte de la fiesta y los días de carrera.

¿Además del turf que otra actividad te gusta disfrutar?
Me gusta salir en familia y viajar.

El caballo ya tiene su sitio en Facebook y una cuenta de tuiter ¿Las crearon ustedes? En caso de que las haya hecho un fan ¿Qué les genera saber el sentimiento que despertó el caballo entre la gente?
Las redes sociales las creó un amigo de la infancia que se dedica a eso, no sabe nada de caballos pero siempre me dice que lo asombra saber cómo la gente quiere a “Sir Fever”.

La reciente participación en las redes sociales, sumado a sus exhibiciones han hecho de Sir Fever una sensación a nivel internacional ¿Querés decirle algo a los estadounidenses fanáticos del caballo que leen nuestra página?
Estoy muy feliz la verdad nunca pensé vivir algo así, el caballo es un ídolo en nuestro país y que hablen de el internacionalmente es algo que me llena de orgullo.

El día del Derby (Gran Premio Nacional) seguramente se paralice el país para verlo correr y seguramente el hipódromo se llene porque será un día histórico ¿Sentís esa presión? ¿Se hace muy larga la espera hasta el día de la carrera? ¿Cuántas veces visitarás al caballo?
Si, se siente las miradas de la gente esperando esa carrera y a ese caballo, es algo inexplicable lo que se siente ver, un Hipódromo aplaudiendo tu caballo, la espera se hace eterna esos 3 minutos cuando los comunican por los parlantes son muy largos y nerviosos. Al caballo lo veo frecuentemente, me gusta seguir de cerca todo lo que el hace.

¿Por qué la chaquetilla del stud es amarilla y negra a cuadros?
Esa “Chaquetilla” es de mi suegro, a mi me gustan esos colores porque también pertenecen a mi cuadro de fútbol, así que decidimos correr con esos colores.

¿Qué mensaje le darías a las mujeres que disfrutan del turf pero no se animan a integrarse de lleno en la actividad?
Las Mujeres le damos un toque especial al turf, la mirada de nosotras es de otro punto de vista y eso lo hace mas interesante, los caballos son muy inteligentes y se entienden muy bien con nosotras.
