Chilean Invader Salto del Indio Ready For The 2014 Santa Anita Gold Cup

Chilean Invader Salto del Indio Ready For The 2014 Santa Anita Gold Cup: The Chilean invader, Salto del Indio is making his US debut on Saturday, June 28, 2014 in the Santa Anita Gold Cup and will try to earn a spot in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic to be contested in Santa Anita on November 1st.

Salto de Indio Gold Cup 2014

Salto del Indio is named after a 20-meters high waterfall called “Salto del Indio” located at the intersection of the Indio and Cautin rivers located in Chile.

Salto del Indio is a son of Happy Hunting – Le Sobra Gracia by Gallantsky who was a late developer and won some Grade 1 races in his native Chile. When Salto del Indio was in his best form, the bad luck began to accompany him. First he tossed his jockey as the favorite in the St. Leger G1 (The most important race in Chile for 3-year-old horses), and then was scratched in the Longines Clasico Latinoamericano de Jockey Club in March of 2014 due to a fever. After that issue, Salto del Indio was sold to Little Red Feather Racing in the United States.

Salto del Indio is trained by Mike Puype and will be ridden by Brice Blanc. He’s been working very well during the month, with his final work clocking 5F in 1:00.40. Salto del Indio has a record of 4 wins, 5 seconds and 5 thirds, in 19 starts, also he’s been one – two – three in 13 of 15 starts on dirt.

Salto del Indio’s pedigree includes tough names like Seeking the Gold, Easy Goer and Nijinsky and is a horse who likes to come from off the pace. He’s going to be a wild card for the 2014 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Park, but his connections are pretty confident with him.
