Two Big Louisiana Futurity Wins to Close Out 2013

Two Big Wins to Close Out 2013 at the Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds

Nurse Emmielle will most certainly be having a good New Year. In Race 9, the 3-year-old filly ended 2013 with a bang with a win at the 2013 Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds.

Nurse Emmielle is owned by Lacie and Bleu Schniederjan. Nurse Emmielle’s jockey for the 2013 Louisiana Futurity was James Graham and her trainer is Steven Duke. Top Doll came in second and French Celebrity ridden by Kerwin D. Clark rounded out the top three. The race was 6 furlongs long and Nurse Emmielle was the favorite.

Sandra Duke, Nurse Emmielle’s breeder said, “She’s a big filly; I’m surprised she’s showing sprinting ability.”

Nurse Emmielle certainly did show her ability as Graham took Nurse Emmielle for a hard drive and won by one length with a time of 1:12.72. Nurse Emmielle takes home the $106,105 purse for the filly division race.

Dixie Beat Horse

Dixie Beat was ridden by Robby Albarado in the 2013 Louisiana Futurity and trained by W. Bret Calhoun and won the race just by a neck and just a day before turning 3-years-old.

Dixie Beat will also be celebrating a great start to the New year as the 3-year-old Gelding won in race 7 of the Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds for the $97,605 purse in the Colt and Gelding Division. Dixie Beat was ridden by Robby Albarado and trained by W. Bret Calhoun and won the race just by a neck and just a day before turning 3-years-old.

In second place was Yankee Gambler and then Forerun came in third.

Albarado said of Dixie Beat, “He broke exceptionally well and ran huge all the way around…I really didn’t want to be that close early but he gave me everything he had when I asked him for it.”

The interesting thing about these races at the Louisiana Futurity is that breeders estimate the success of their horses in utero, and actually nominate their foals for these races before the horses are even born. So it looks like Nurse Emmielle’s and Dixie Beat’s breeders bet correctly for these two winning horses!
