Now Retired Star Also Picks Up Champion Turf Male Award, Connections Win Big

By LATT Staff

Klaravich Stables’ Breeders’ Cup Turf (GIT) hero Bricks and Mortar took home the Horse of the Year Trophy at the 49th annual Eclipse Awards ceremony held January 23rd at Gulfstream Park. The 6-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway was also honored as the year’s top male turf horse, while his owners, trainer Chad Brown and Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. also took home the trophy in their respective categories.

Bricks and Mortar was retired after the Breeders’ Cup and sold to Japan where he will take up stallion duty at Shadai Farm. He ended a spectacular career with a record of 13-11-0-2, $7,085,650 and wins in the Arlington Million (GIT), Manhattan Stakes (GIT), Old Forrester Turf Classic (GIT) and Pegasus Turf Cup (GIT).

Following are all the winners for each division of the 2019 Eclipse Awards. Congratulations to all!
