The Florida Derby took place on Saturday March 30, 2013 at Gulfstream Park. Orb, trained by Shug McGaughey, placed first if front of 2013 Holy Bull winner Itsmyluckyday. Orb secured a spot in the 2013 Kentucky Derby with 150 points on the Leaderboard. Jockey John Velazquez was aboard Orb for the win.

In addition to the Florida Derby, fans excitedly watched the Gulfstream Oaks, an official Kentucky Oaks Championship Series prep race where fan favorite Dreaming of Julia placed first. Dreaming of Julia is a force to be reckoned with! This girl left the competition in the dust! The three-year-old bay filly won by 21 ¾ lengths over second place winner Live Lively. Dreaming of Julia is trained by Todd Pletcher and is a Stonestreet Stables home-bred filly.
