The historic third jewel of the Triple Crown is worth $1,500,000 and is run at 1 1/2 miles on a dirt track. With the chance of a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, all eyes are on the Bob Baffert trained colt American Pharoah who breaks from post position number five in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. American Pharoah won the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby on May 2, 2015 at Churchill Downs and the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes on May 16, 2015 at Pimlico Race Course.
