2012 Kentucky Derby Contender Bodemeister

Kentucky Derby contender Bodemeister and trainer Bob Baffert are looking to be in better shape for the May 5th race. Not only did Bodemeister look fluid on the track during his recent workout, Bob Baffert is recovering nicely from his heart attack in Dubai one month ago.

Trainer Bob Baffert claims he has changed his routine to improve his health before the 2012 Kentucky Derby. “I’ve got to redo, change my lifestyle for the best,” Baffert said. “I’ve got to take care of myself like I take care of my horses.” He is also waking up at 6am to walk on the treadmill and taking medication. “I’m tired. They have me on a lot of medication, so it gets me a little tired. I’ll be talking then my voice goes down. That’s why I don’t like to do too much talking,” Baffert said.

After watching Bodemeister work five furlongs in just over a minute, Bob Baffert felt a sense of relief. “I feel relieved. Bodemeister worked really well. He looked like he skipped right over the track and you never know until you work them over how they’re going to handle it but he seemed like he was really fluid the way he went around there,” Baffert said. “That’s him, when you let him pick it up, he really just floats over the ground. I just took my time with him,” Bob Baffert said. “He was just immature. I wasn’t in a big hurry with him, so I’m glad I did. It made him a better horse.”

Bodemeister is named after Bob Baffert’s 7-year-old son “Bode”. The Kentucky Derby contender’s jockey is Mike Smith, who rode his first race at only age eleven.

Lady And The Track would like to wish the beautiful Bodemeister, Bob Baffert, Jockey Mike Smith, and Zayat Stables the best of luck in the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
