Withers Stakes 2015 at Aqueduct Heats Up Derby Trail: On Saturday, February 7, 2015 the 135th running of the Withers Stakes will be held at the Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. The race has a $250,000 purse and is for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt track. The GIII Withers Stakes will award the first place finisher with ten points towards the chance at a position in the 2015 Kentucky Derby starting gate. Currently, 8-5 morning line favorite El Kabeir sits at the top of the Kentucky Derby Leader Board with a total of 21 points. The Zayat Stables colt collected those points in his Jerome Stakes victory, Kentucky Jockey Club win, and his 4th place finish in the Champagne at Belmont Park.

What’s Happening at Aqueduct…

In addition to the Withers Stakes, Aqueduct also features the GIII Toboggan Stakes at 1:43 PM ET. Admission is free for all fall and winter meets at Aqueduct, so make sure to head out for a great day of racing. Admission gates open at 11:00 AM ET and general parking is $3 per day. The parking gates open at 8:00 AM ET and post time is at 12:45 PM ET. The Withers Stakes is the 8th race of the day with a post time of 4:13 PM ET.

There are several dining options to choice from at Aqueduct including the upscale buffet at the Equestris Restaurant. It is advised to make a reservation for the Equestris Restaurant in advance. The Triple Crown Cafe and the Winner’s Circle Coffee Shop are both excellent places to the warm up a bit in between races.
