Breeders’ Cup 2014 Results and Highlights: The 31st running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championship at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California showcased thirteen thoroughbreds worthy of being called the Best in the World. The Breeders’ Cup two-day event took place on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st 2014 and is the most prestigious race a horse can win in the United States. Breeders’ Cup Friday races seemed to favor the favorites and Breeders’ Cup Saturday races mostly went to the long shots! After a long inquiry, Bayern and Martin Garcia won the 31st running of the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The win was trainer Bob Baffert’s first Breeders’ Cup victory.

In the 2nd to the last race of the 31st running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championship, 30-1 Karakontie and Stephane Pasquier win the Breeders’ Cup Mile with ease at Santa Anita Park.

Work All Week, ridden by Florent Geroux, held off defending winner Secret Circle to capture Saturday’s $1.5 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita Park on Breeders’ Cup saturday.

Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf
Main Sequence & John Velazquez
Ridden by John Velazquez, Main Sequence ran 1 1/2 miles in 2:24.91 and paid $14.40, $5.80 and $4.20 at 6-1 odds. The 5-year-old gelding is unbeaten in four starts since coming to the barn of Maryland-based trainer Graham Motion.

Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Texas Red & Kent Desormeaux
Texas Red and jockey Kent Desormeaux shocked the world winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with 13-1 odds. Texas Red beat 9-5 favorite Carpe Diem by 6 1/2 lengths. The time was 1:41.91 for the 1 1/16 miles.

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Bobby’s Kitten won the 6.5 furlong $1 million G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The G1 14 Hands Winery Juvenile Fillies kicked off day two of the 31st running of the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, November 1, 2014. With 61-1 odds, Take Charge Brandi and jockey Victor Espinoza won the 1 1/16 mile race worth $2,000,000 for two-year-old fillies by only one-half length paying $125.40 for a $2.00 win bet.

Three-year-old filly Untapable, who also won the 2014 Kentucky Oaks, and jockey Rosie Napravnik sealed the deal in the $2 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff. The 2-1 favorite Lady Eli, trained by Chad Brown, won the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf with jockey Irad Ortiz. The victory was the young jockey’s first Breeders’ Cup win. The two-year-old filly won the race by 2 ¾ lengths and paid $6.80.

Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile
Goldencents & Rafael Bejarano
Goldencents defended his title and won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile for the 2nd year in a row. Despite tiring in the stretch, the colt won the $1 million mile by 1 ¼ lengths. Rafael Bejarano led Goldencents across the Santa Anita Park finish line in 1:35.16.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf
Hootenanny & Lanfranco Dettori
Trainer Wesley Ward led Hootenanny and jockey Frankie Detorri to victory in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. The win was Wesley Ward’s first Breeders’ Cup victory and jockey Frankie Detorri’s tenth! Hootenanny was timed in 1:34.79 over firm turf and paid $14.00 for a $2.00 win bet.
