Weezer is part of Del Mar’s summer concert series on Clement L. Hirsch Handicap Day at Del Mar on Saturday, August 2, 2014.

There are quite a few events happening on race day including the Del Mar Summer Concert Series with Weezer as the featured band. The concert will begin right after the last race at 6:30 PM PT. The great part about is that the concert is free with race track admission, unless you arrive after the last race, in which case concert admission is $20. If you purchase a $6 Stretch Run admission ticket you will get a day of racing and a free concert. The concert is for all ages and it is festival style, standing room only. The Seaside Concert area is west of the Grandstand.

For those who prefer early morning activities there is Daybreak at Del Mar on Clement L. Hirsch Day. You can watch the morning workouts and have breakfast in the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant form 7:30 am-9:30 am. There is no charge for admission except the cost of breakfast and a $10 parking fee.

If you are a newbie to the race track you can also attend one of Del Mar’s Newcomer’s Seminars. It begins 1 hour prior to the first race of the day and last for 45 minutes. It is located at the Plaza de Mexico by Stretch Run admission gates and you will learn valuable horse racing information and an introduction into understanding the odds, handicapping and insider tips.

Del Mar also features family weekends every Saturday from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM. Kids of all ages are welcome and children receive free track admission and adults are only $6. There are plenty of free family and kid friendly activities such as a giant scramble slide and obstacle course, inflatable games and rides, the Del Mar Mascot “Pony Boy,” pony rides, a magic show and game zone, jockey stilt walkers, face painters, and a caricature artist.

You will also want to come to race day at Del Mar hungry since there will be a Western Regional Chili Cook-off. It will be in the concert area around 2:00 PM and free chili samples will be given out and you can vote for your favorites. Chili will be served until it runs out. If you have a great recipe you can even enter your chili to try to win over $2,500 in prizes and move on to the 2014 World Championships. To compete contact Red at (858) 674-0840 or [email protected].

With all the great happenings going on at Del Mar on race day, you will need an outfit to carry you from day to night. Since you will be on your feet all day, start with your foot wear. Heels might be a bit much to take you from breakfast all the way through a night concert, so instead, go for a bohemian inspired gladiator sandal. It is every bit as stylish as a heel but much more comfortable. You can go for a attention getting knee high pair or a more low key but still chic ankle hugging pair. Pair your gladiators with a short and loose mini shift dress to show off your legs. We are not talking about a business structured knee length shift but a more relaxed bohemian 60’s inspired shift. Pair your look with loose wavy hair and try a trendy panama hat to top off your look. Check out Kourtney Kardashian for celebrity inspiration.

You will be ready to go from morning to night looking stylish at all that Del Mar has to offer at the 2014 Clement L. Hirsch Handicap.
