Shocking Twist: Fierceness Climbs to #1 in Elite Thoroughbred Rankings!

Fierceness and Thorpedo Anna: Top Contenders in Latest Poll

In the most recent ranking of elite Thoroughbred horses, Fierceness and Thorpedo Anna continue to dominate the scene, mirroring their recent performances in the prestigious Grade 1 Travers. Fierceness clinched the top spot, closely followed by Thorpedo Anna in second place.

Both horses garnered 285 votes in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll. However, Fierceness edged out with 11 first-place votes compared to Thorpedo Anna’s nine. Under the guidance of trainer Todd Pletcher, Fierceness ascended from ninth place last week, while Kenny McPeek’s filly, previously in the lead, dropped to second.

Shuffling of the Top 10

The overall top 10 list remained intact, though there were notable shifts within it. Señor Buscador, after finishing fourth in the Pat O’Brien (G2) event, fell to sixth place from second. Meanwhile, Dornoch, who also placed fourth but in the Travers, moved down to eighth from third.

The NTRA conducts the top Thoroughbred poll, reflecting racing performances through to the end of each week. Votes are cast by members of the national media.

The ranking system allocates points on a descending scale from 10 to 1 for positions, with additional notation of first-place votes, the 2024 record of the horse, and total points accumulated.
