Michael Jackson’s Gift to Elizabeth Taylor Sells for the Price of a House!

Historic Diamond Bracelet Auctioned

On January 30, 2025, the auction house Woolley & Wallis sold a diamond bracelet that Michael Jackson once gifted to Elizabeth Taylor. The sale price soared beyond expectations, reaching an astonishingly high figure.

Elizabeth Taylor: Icon of the Silver Screen

Renowned actress Elizabeth Taylor left an indelible mark on Hollywood, particularly during the 1960s and 70s. Known not only for her exceptional acting skills but also for her unique violet-hued eyes, Taylor was a beloved public figure. She was famous for her extensive romantic engagements, having been engaged ten times and married eight. She amassed a significant collection of jewelry, which she discussed in her 2002 book, “My Love Affair with Jewelry.” In it, she explores the stories behind the most meaningful and significant pieces in her collection.

However, her impressive collection wasn’t solely amassed through marriages. It also included gifts from close friends, including Michael Jackson. Their friendship spanned many years, leading to Taylor becoming the godmother to his children. Jackson often gifted her jewelry, including the noteworthy gold bracelet studded with 27 graduated diamonds.

The Auction Highlight

This piece was the centerpiece at the auction held by British firm Woolley & Wallis on the last Thursday of January 2025. Initially, the bracelet was estimated to fetch between 50,000 to 70,000 pounds sterling (approximately 60,000 to 84,000 euros). However, as is typical in auctions, the final bid far exceeded these estimates, almost doubling the anticipated amount.

It’s worth noting that this wasn’t the bracelet’s first appearance at auction. Previously, in 2011, it was sold for $182,500 (about 176,000 euros). The owner from that auction decided to put it back up for sale, and more than a decade later, it fetched 95,000 pounds sterling (about 114,200 euros). This sale underscored the enduring value of the piece, which not only symbolized a stunning work of art but also represented the deep friendship between Taylor and Jackson.

Enduring Love and Legacy

Following Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, Elizabeth Taylor expressed profound sorrow, stating, “My heart and soul are broken. I loved Michael with all my heart and cannot imagine life without him.” She herself passed away in 2011, but their shared stories and tokens of affection, like the auctioned bracelet, continue to captivate and touch the hearts of many around the world.

This remarkable auction not only highlighted a piece of jewelry but also celebrated the enduring nature of friendship and love encapsulated within it.
