Throughout her fashion career, Elodie Gossuin has encountered countless designer garments. However, her favorites are those she inherited from Geneviève de Fontenay. She has even passed one such item down to her daughter, Rose.
Elodie Gossuin: A Miss France Icon with a Heartfelt Fashion Sense
Elodie Gossuin wears many hats, yet she always remains down-to-earth. Since her early days, she has won over the hearts of the French public with her beauty, humanity, zest for life, and simplicity. This approachability extends to every aspect of her life, including her fashion philosophy. Proud to be relatable, the former Miss France is a designer for Tissaia at E.Leclerc—a brand that offers stylish yet affordable clothing and home textiles for families.
More Than Just Clothes: A Sentimental Approach to Fashion
Beyond her “non-elitist” view of fashion, Elodie Gossuin also embraces a sentimental approach. In her wardrobe, clothes are more than mere fabric; they are reminders of memories, akin to Proust’s madeleines, encapsulating beautiful stories that she fondly revisits. Among these cherished items is a veritable treasure trove inherited from “the Miss of all Misses,” Geneviève de Fontenay.
She shared with Journal des Femmes: “In the [clothing] pieces that I have, which are like a museum to me, there is all the heritage that I received from Geneviève. I can’t help but think of the Misses and especially her when I pass by them because I have these relics at home. It’s both beautiful and difficult, but as it was her wish, I respect it and am proud of it.”
At 44, she has inherited a significant portion of the garments from the former president of the Miss France committee. Among these carefully preserved treasures, there are no hats, but rather “all her dresses, jackets, gala gowns, or even outfits from certain pageants.” These are treasures she cannot wear herself due to their profound significance, but she cherishes them especially when worn by her daughter Rose.
Emotional Moments Shared Through Fashion
In an exclusive share, she recounted: “The most beautiful moment for me was in June this year, when my children graduated from high school. There was a prom, and Rose wanted to wear one of Geneviève’s dresses… a princess dress, almost a bridal gown, adorned with lots of rhinestones… And it was very emotional. When she tried it on, I thought to myself that Geneviève must be very proud, because she had told me ‘I hope that one day, your daughters will want to try [my clothes] or wear them.'”
In a time where clothes are often discarded like trivial waste, Elodie Gossuin shows us that they can carry on through generations without losing their significance. This spirit is reflected in the fashion and home textile collections she designs for Tissaia. Her second collaboration is available at your local E.Leclerc.
