Evangeline Turf Sprint 2014 Odds; Snappy Girl Takes on the Boys: The Evangeline Turf Sprint takes place at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, LA on Saturday, June 21, 2014. The five-furlong $300,000 Turf Sprint Stakes for three-year-olds and up is the 8th race of the day at Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel with a post time of 7:28 PM CDT. Ten contenders take to the field including the 15-1 lone filly, Snappy Girl.
Sum of the Parts leads the ten-horse field with 3-1 morning line odds in the 2014 Evangeline Turf Sprint Stakes. The five-year-old horse trained by Tom Amoss finished second in his last race on June 9th, the Karl Boyes Memorial Stakes at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania. Sum of the Parts has crossed the finish line first in eight of his twenty-one career starts. William H. Lawrence and Klaravich Stables, who also own 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf third place finisher Balance The Books, own Sum of the Parts. Jockey Gerard Melancon teams up with Sum of the Parts for the 2014 Evangeline Turf Sprint Stakes.
Son of Lemon Drop Kid, Lemon Drop Dream, comes into the 2014 Evangeline Turf Sprint Stakes with 6-1 morning line odds. The four-year-old colt is trained by Steve Asmussen and gets Ricardo Santana, Jr. for the five-furlong ride on Saturday. Out of eleven lifetime races, Lemon Drop Dream has won four of them, the last victory being the Count Sprint Fleet Handicap on April 10th at Oaklawn Park.
Breaking from post position #6 in the 2014 Evangeline Turf Sprint is 5-2 Gantry. The seven-year-old gelding seems to be on everyone’s watch list for the Turf Sprint. His last win was on March 15th at fairgrounds in the Colonel Power Stakes. The Ron Faucheux trained Gantry returned to Keenlenad just a month later to finish in 6th place in the G3 Shakertown Stakes.
Four-year-old filly Snappy Girl, with 15-1 morning line odds, takes on the boys in the 2014 Evangeline Turf Sprint for trainer Karl Broberg, who also sends in 7-2 Heitai. Owned by Jerry Namy, Snappy Girl is on a winning streak winning her last three races at Evangeline Downs. The experts don’t favor Snappy Girl in the 2014 Evangeline Stakes despite her ability to handle the turf. Jockey Glen Murphy teams up with Snappy Girl for Saturday’s race.
Turf Sprint Day at Evangeline Downs includes a total of five stakes races on the eleven race card.
