What prints should they avoid, or how can they modernize their look even with prints considered by some as old-fashioned? To address these concerns, the editorial team at Journal des Femmes turned to Rouje\u2019s style director, Carole Coevet, for expert advice. Coevet specifically cautioned against large floral prints, which she believes are harder to modernize for the mature woman.<\/p>\n
Coevet advises steering clear of \u201cthe most vintage\u201d prints, explaining that their distinct aesthetic can confine them to a specific era and create a dusty, outdated appearance. She highlighted an example fully entrenched in 80s visuals: \u201cThis particular print is so quintessentially 80s, very busy and vintage, that it could age someone. A more vintage print on an older individual might evoke a sense of stepping back in time… It really needs a fresh twist to make it contemporary.\u201d<\/p>\n
To keep these prints fresh and contemporary, Coevet suggests a subtle yet effective approach: adding an element that injects a youthful vibe into the outfit. By \u201ca small step aside,\u201d she means incorporating a simple, modern piece like a large white shirt or a plain white tee.<\/p>\n
Another tip from Coevet involves blending a challenging print with \u201ca large block of color\u201d to avoid a monotonous patterned look. \u201cI think contrasting a print with a large block of color can be very effective. White is particularly easy to work with.\u201d Besides white, she recommends soft, solid colors to balance the overall ensemble, like black. However, Coevet emphasizes that in fashion, age should not dictate choices. \u201cPersonally, I find large floral prints on a 60-year-old woman absolutely fabulous,\u201d she asserts.<\/p>\n
