Thorpedo Anna<\/b> is nearly certain to win the Eclipse Award as the top 3-year-old filly of 2024. This Saturday, she will attempt to break the gender barrier in horse racing by becoming the first filly in over a century to win the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes<\/b> at Saratoga.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The 1 1\/4-mile race, known as the mid-summer derby, will also feature Dornoch, the winner of the Belmont Stakes and Haskell (G1), who is currently leading the pack among 3-year-old males.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This week in the U.S. and Canada, there are 15 graded stakes and the re-scheduled King\u2019s Plate at five different tracks. Starting Thursday, seven of these events will take place at Saratoga.<\/p>\n

Ballston Spa (G2), Saratoga, 1 1\/16 miles (turf), fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Chad Brown, a record holder with seven Ballston Spa victories, has entered four of the five horses in the main draw this week. Grade 1 winner Beaut\u00e9 Cach\u00e9e, following her win in last month’s 1 1\/8-mile Matchmaker (G3) at Monmouth Park, will cut back in distance. Her stablemate Delahaye, who placed third in the same race, will also compete. Gina Romantica and Coppice, who finished third and fifth respectively in last month’s Diana (G1) over the same course and distance, are part of the lineup. Surprisingly, who finished fourth in the Matchmaker, is also entered by trainer Todd Pletcher. Hoosier Philly, Movie Moxy, and Amanda’s Folly have entries for the main track only.<\/p>\n
