Leek Croque Monsieur is a recipe I truly cherish because it incorporates vegetables into the sandwich, making it less dry and more delightful. It’s also incredibly quick to prepare.<\/p>\n
For 4 servings:<\/p>\n
– **Sandwich Bread**: 8 slices
\n– **Emmental Cheese**: 4 slices
\n– **Leeks**: 2 whole
\n– **Butter**: 4 dollops
\n– **Ham**: 4 slices
\n– **Salt**: 1 pinch
\n– **Pepper**: 1 pinch
\n– **Nutmeg**: 1 pinch<\/p>\n
1. **Preparing the Filling**<\/p>\n
Start by melting some butter in a skillet. Slice the leeks and add them to the skillet, seasoning with salt, pepper, and a dash of nutmeg. Let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes until the leeks are tender and flavorful.<\/p>\n
2. **Assembling and Cooking Your Sandwich**<\/p>\n
Take a slice of sandwich bread and spread a thin layer of butter on each slice. Place a slice of ham on the bread, followed by an even layer of the leek mixture. Top with a slice of Emmental cheese and cover with another slice of bread.<\/p>\n
For cooking, I use a sandwich maker, but you can also bake it in the oven at 350\u00b0F (180\u00b0C) for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.<\/p>\n
